National geographical conditions are an important prerequisite for national development. A basic national condition of China is that the geographical settings of different regions are very different, i.e. huge divergencies in the population, resources and development levels. Since the founding of People’s Republic of China, China has implemented different regional policies in different periods, which have significant impacts on regional development. Understanding the evolution of regional policies is an important perspective for interpreting the governance of China.
